Your Association at work - 16 December 2009 update

Wednesday 16 December, 2009

Taxpayers Australia has represented its members by participating in the final Superannuation Consultative Committee meeting for 2009 on Tuesday 8 December 2009 in Melbourne. The main issues discussed or advised were:

  • An update on Legislation, Unclaimed monies and Excess Contributions Tax
  • An overview by the Medicare team on the implementation of the new Clearing House Measures
  • The Tax System shut down in early January as part of the Tax Office's Systems Upgrade.
  • The initiatives by the Tax Office to address the issue of Illegal Early Release through an enhancement of the registration process for SMSFs before they are shown on the SMSF Look-Up Register.
The meeting concluded with a discussion of the Commission's draft strategic statement embodied in its vision that 'Australians value their tax and superannuation systems as community assets, where willing participation is recognised as a hallmark of good citizenship.'
