Taxpayers Australia has represented
its members by participating in the final Superannuation Consultative Committee
meeting for 2009 on Tuesday 8 December 2009 in Melbourne. The main issues
discussed or advised were:
An update on Legislation,
Unclaimed monies and Excess Contributions Tax
An overview by the
Medicare team on the implementation of the new Clearing House Measures
The Tax System shut down
in early January as part of the Tax Office's Systems Upgrade.
The initiatives by the Tax
Office to address the issue of Illegal Early Release through an enhancement of
the registration process for SMSFs before they are shown on the SMSF Look-Up
Register.
The
meeting concluded with a discussion of the Commission's draft strategic
statement embodied in its vision that 'Australians
value their tax and superannuation systems as community assets, where willing
participation is recognised as a hallmark of good citizenship.'
