Tax Practitioners Board meeting

Taxpayers Australia has attended a meeting between representatives of professional associations and members of the new Tax Practitioners Board on 20 January 2010 in Sydney.

We received an update from the Board on progress with implementation of guidelines for areas such as:

• Board charter
• consultative meeting with the Board during 2010
• registration for ‘specialist' tax advisors
• monitoring compliance with the new laws
• professional indemnity insurance requirements, and
• the difficulties faced in getting BAS preparers registered where they are not already registered as tax agents.
